Before we start on the learning journey, let\u2019s first see some facts about the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When and where will it be held<\/b><\/h3>\n

The 2022 Winter Olympics will begin on Feb 4th and end on Feb 20.<\/strong> The opening ceremony will take place at the National Stadium, also known as \u201cThe Bird\u2019s Nest”. The first match, curling, will start at 7:05 a.m. EST on February 2<\/span>nd<\/span>, ahead of the opening ceremony. The games will last for 19 days, with the Closing Ceremony on February 20<\/span>th<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

You may think Beijing is the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics. But it\u2019s only partially correct. In fact, Beijing, as the central zone, will host only the five ice events. There are also sports venues in nearby cities like Yanqing<\/strong> and Zhangjiakou<\/strong>. Yanqing is located in the northwest of Beijing and will host the events of bobsleigh, luge, and alpine skiing due to its mountainous terrain. Zhangjiakou is the even further one, 180km from Beijing city, will be responsible for the remaining events.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mascots, logo, and theme song<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Beijing Winter Olympics also has two super cute mascots, Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon. Bing Dwen Dwen (<\/span>\u51b0\u58a9\u58a9<\/span> \u2014<\/span> b\u012bng d\u016bn d\u016bn) is a giant panda with a suit of ice crystal. The headshell is shaped like an ice sports helmet, and the overall image resembles an astronaut. Meanwhile, the design concept of Bing Dwen Dwen eschews traditional elements and is full of the vision of the future and speed. What’s more, the panda is recognized worldwide as China’s national treasure.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shuey Rhon Rhon (<\/span>\u96ea\u5bb9\u878d<\/span> \u2014<\/span> xu\u011b r\u00f3ng r\u00f3ng) is an anthropomorphic Chinese lantern with the pattern of snowpack signifying winter on the face and a circle of paper cutouts on the top of the head. Lanterns symbolize good luck, happiness, warmth, and celebration in China. It reminded me of how Chinese people decorate their houses with lanterns for the Chinese New Year, like Christmas trees in the West.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Emblem of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games <\/span>(<\/span>\u51ac\u68a6<\/span> \u2014 d\u014dng m\u00e8ng) is composed of three parts: the logo, the text, and the Olympic rings. The entire body of which resembles the calligraphic form of the Chinese character “winter” (<\/span>\u51ac<\/span> \u2014 d\u014dng), and the dominant hue is blue. If we take it apart, the upper section of the emblem looks like an ice skater, while the lower section indicates the figure of a skier, representing the two main kinds of winter sports, on ice and on snow. This design is stunning, blending the subtleties of both whole and part.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
