A:<\/b><\/strong> Hello everyone! I am Yan Jiayu, the\u00a0voice of ChineseSkill\u2019s lessons. My English name is Sherry Yan. I have an MA degree in Chinese International Education. ChineseSkill\u2019s old friends might be familiar with my voice, since I have worked with ChineseSkill for a long time.<\/p>\n

English is my second\u00a0language. When I first started learning English around 20 years ago<\/strong>, I could only practice by reading and listening to recordings. However, nowadays ChineseSkill makes language learning like a game. Also, the tips explain everything I need to know while learning. ChineseSkill\u00a0is changing how people learn foreign languages.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aside from English, I can also speak a little Japanese. In the multilingual environment of ChineseSkill, I am trained to do the audio post-processing with any language such as English, French, Japanese, Spanish or German. Q: What would you do to prepare <\/b><\/strong>for<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0a recording?\u00a0<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/b><\/strong> Before recording, I will confirm the recording time, the contents and quantity of the recording texts, and also check the state of my voice. If it is done at a recording studio, the sound engineer will help to adjust the recording equipment and will help to ensure that the pronunciation is clear and there is no background noise. While during this special period of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have to record at home. I will find a room with good soundproofing and no echo. I usually do the recording at night, when there is less noise outside. Of course, sometimes I will record the same text several times<\/strong> until I get high-quality audio.<\/p>\n

\u5f55\u97f3\u524d\u6211\u4f1a\u786e\u8ba4\u6c49\u8bed\u5f55\u97f3\u5185\u5bb9\u3001\u6570\u91cf\uff0c\u786e\u5b9a\u55d3\u5b50\u72b6\u6001\u58f0\u97f3\u72b6\u51b5\uff0c\u786e\u5b9a\u5f55\u97f3\u65f6\u95f4\u3002\u5982\u679c\u662f\u5f55\u97f3\u68da\u7684\u8bdd\uff0c\u5f55\u97f3\u5e08\u4f1a\u5e2e\u5fd9\u8c03\u8bd5\u597d\u5f55\u97f3\u8bbe\u5907\uff0c\u5f55\u97f3\u65f6\u4f1a\u548c\u5f55\u97f3\u5e08\u76f8\u4e92\u914d\u5408\u786e\u4fdd\u6ca1\u6709\u55b7\u9ea6\u3001\u53d1\u97f3\u6e05\u6670\u7b49\uff1b\u5982\u679c\u662f20\u5e74\u4e0a\u534a\u5e74\u8fd9\u4e2a\u75ab\u60c5\u7279\u6b8a\u65f6\u671f\uff0c\u53ea\u80fd\u5728\u5bb6\u5f55\u97f3\uff0c\u6211\u4f1a\u5bfb\u627e\u4e00\u4e2a\u6ca1\u6709\u56de\u58f0\u7684\u9694\u97f3\u6548\u679c\u597d\u7684\u623f\u95f4\uff0c\u7b49\u591c\u6df1\u4eba\u9759\u65f6\uff0c\u6237\u5916\u7684\u566a\u58f0\u964d\u5230\u6700\u4f4e\uff0c\u6211\u5c31\u51c6\u5907\u597d\u5f55\u97f3\u8bbe\u5907\u5f00\u59cb\u5de5\u4f5c\u5566\uff0c\u5f53\u7136\u5f55\u5f97\u4e0d\u6ee1\u610f\u6709\u65f6\u5019\u4f1a\u53cd\u590d\u5f55\u597d\u51e0\u904d\u76f4\u5230\u58f0\u97f3\u8d28\u91cf\u8fbe\u5230\u6700\u4f73\u4e3a\u6b62\u3002<\/p>\n

Q: Is there anything in <\/b><\/strong>Chinese<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0that you consider particularly hard to pronounce? Anything particularly beautiful-sounding?<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

A:<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0Maybe the syllables with initials\/\u00a0j\/, \/q\/, \/x\/, \/r\/, and those\u00a0containing\u00a0the unique vowel\u00a0of \u00fc\u00a0will need special attention of beginners.\u00a0I personally think that there is no difference in the level of\u00a0difficulty between different sounds.\u00a0The mother tongue has a great\u00a0impact on anyone who tries to learn foreign languages. You feel certain sounds are especially difficult just because you have not encountered them before. All you need to do is to practice more by listening, shadowing and speaking.<\/strong>\u00a0Take j as an example. Many people may pronounce \/j\/ as J in English.\u00a0If you want to pronounce it correctly in Chinese, you need to press the tip of the tongue\u00a0against the lower incisors, and keep the front part of the tongue close to the hard palate. The airflow will rush out from the narrow slit and create a sound. The tongue (except the tip of the tongue) is almost parallel to the hard palate. Please listen to this sound\u00a0\/j\/ again.<\/p>\n

A particularly beautiful-sounding\u00a0word could\u00a0be \u00e0i (love). As the saying goes, \u201cSimplicity is the ultimate sophistication\u201d.\u00a0Maybe you have never learned it\u00a0before, but you can pronounce it correctly. “Love” makes our lives better.
